The Unintended Consequences Of The Adam Walsh Act

I am posting the following information to inform the public of the countless lives being destroyed by the states to ensure that they keep receiving federal dollars into their coffers in exchange for the futures of countless youths in the country.

My son found himself on the Michigan SOR at age 12 and our lives were turned upside down for several years. Fortunately for us, our wonderful attorney Joni Fixel from Lansing was able to get him removed from the list and he now has a future.

Most aren't as lucky to fight the system and win. Our youth do not realize that a mistake made today can affect their entire future. This topic is near and dear to me and I am using this forum to inform the public of this travesty of justice.

I am not sure if Michigan ever fixed their juvenile sex offender registry, but during the period we were being traumatized by the state, experts on the SOR discovered that Michigan was in such a rush to glom onto the federal monies that they for got to write the rules for juveniles to follow. As a result, each county was making their own rules, almost guaranteeing that these kids will violate these rules that don't exist.

I am posting a small portion of the information I uncovered during my quest to save my son's future. It is ironic that I, a victim of horrible sex abuse at the hands of my own father, am advocating for sex offenders. However, what they are doing to our youth is wrong and we need to change the system.

Report details lives ruined for children put on sex-offender registries

Not everyone loves John Walsh or that their family profited from their tragedy. Today, if a mother left her six year old alone in a toy department and they ended up murdered she would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Why did they get a free pass and sympathy instead.(And a lot of money).

John Walsh

From another blogger.

John Walsh 101--Agitprop for an Antihero.
It is always a good day when you meet up with a hero. No--certainly not John Walsh, but rather the man who reviewed Walsh's book, Tears of Rage in New York Book Time in 2008, S. Michael Wilson. Wilson's review is note-perfect, and while I haven't read Walsh's masturbatory masterpiece yet, I do plan on buying a used hardcover at Amazon for a penny--it being of that category which the market prices as such, plus a fair $3.95 charge for postage and handling

Wilson writes: "Again, I’m not painting Walsh as a demon," but I certainly am! He's the kind of demon who'd serve his cut-up six-year-old in a lasagna, and then complain about too much garlic, or finding a toenail in the sauce.

ABC's Nightline on Dec 16, 2008, Adam Walsh Case Closed, shows video from the Walshes' press conference "announcing" the solving of the couple's 27-year-old ordeal---or as the Associated Press put it, the "solving." A newly installed Hollywood, Florida chief of police, Chad Wagner, had utilized his first year on the job in a review of the case file and it suddenly occurred to everyone at once that this murder-slash-decapitation (with one news source stating the six-year-old boy had been raped, but hard to prove without holding the O-ring evidence) had, in fact, been solved. Given a shared wavelength, Wagner and Walsh must have been credentialed at the same coven of macho Warlocks, although Chad's first name is short for Chadwick, and not Chappaquiddick as I first thought.

ETHICAL TREATMENT FOR ALL YOUTH

This site is an excellent resource for parents who find themselves in the legal nightmare of having a child on the sex offender registry. There are several personal stories that are worth reading.

This Northern Express Article regarding my child's story details the fact that each county had a different set of requirements for youthful offenders.

This is the last in a series of articles on sex offenders. This week, the Express focuses on the sex offender registry, which publicly lists convicted sex offenders on the Internet.

--------------------------------------------------

Jim is not proud of the fact that five years ago he inappropriately touched his cousin on the outside of her underwear. He had just turned 10 and his cousin was 11. He then threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
His cousin was deeply upset by the experience and still refuses to talk to him. He doesn’t blame her.
Yet Jim, 15, -- whose name has been changed for this article -- has decided to talk publicly about the crime because he was in the fourth grade when it happened. When he turns 18, his name will appear on the public sex offender registry for the rest of his life. The sex offender registry does not reflect when a sex crime was committed. “So anyone looking at this when I’m an adult will think I was a pervert adult having sex with an 11-year-old,” he said.
His case is extreme, but here is the reality for all juveniles: if a youth is convicted or pleads to criminal sexual assault in the first or second degree, he or she will end up on the public sex offender registry list for 25 years, or even for life — long after the youth has completed probation or served his or her sentence.
If convicted of a lesser sex offense, the juvenile will be on a sex offender registry that is not public, but available to police and other authorities.
The judge has no choice. The sex offender registry is mandatory for all ages.
