'I could have done more. I should have done more': Thirty years after the Challenger explosion, NASA contractor is still racked with guilt over death of seven crew members

  • Bob Ebeling, 89, was one of fourengineers working for NASA contractor Morton Thiokol who warned against launching Challenger in 1986
  • However, the space agency overruled them and decided to press forward with the launch anyway, sending seven crew members to their death
  • Thirty years after the disaster, Ebeling says he continues to blame himself for not lobby harder for a postponed launch 
  • 'Had they listened to me and wait[ed] for a weather change, it might have been a completely different outcome,' Ebeling told NPR
