MANCELONA, Mich. (WOOD) — Among the first places police searched for Jessica Heeringa after Jeffrey Willis’s arrest was a steel-sided cabin in northern Michigan and the land around it.
A Michigan State Police report obtained by 24 Hour News 8 shows they were looking for her body.
The land is owned by the family of Norton Shores Police Officer Shawn Stefanich, a friend of Willis, according to the report. It’s in the Antrim County village of Mancelona, about 180 miles north of the Norton Shores gas station where Heeringawas last seen in April 2013.
“They were trying to search that woods, that field over to the side,” Brenda Devine said Thursday, pointing to the land across the street from her home.
