Arizona judge unaware of fatality when giving state senator’s son a slap on the wrist for speeding

An Arizona judge recently called both a prosecuting attorney and a defense attorney on the carpet, telling them that they failed to inform him that there was a fatality in a traffic accident case involving a former state senator’s son, before he gave the the man a minimal sentence of attending defensive driving classes.

According to an investigation by the Phoenix New Times, Glendale City Judge Manuel Delgado held the meeting with staffers from Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery’s office and defense attorney Patrick Gann, who defended Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office detective Sean Pearce after he was involved in a 2013 car crash that killed 63-year-old John Edward Harding.
