State orders child born as 1-pound 'micro-baby' sent to foster care

LAKE, MI — After four months in two hospitals, heart surgery and numerous other procedures, Ryker James LaRoy McEvers, who was born weighing 1 pound and 2 ounces at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, came home for the first time Feb 6.
Just days later, though, Ryker was ordered into foster care after an investigation by Michigan's Child Protective Services agency.
A petition filed by a state worker in Clare County on Feb. 11 questions the physical and mental health of Ryker's mother, 22-year-old Dannielle McEvers.
McEvers said she just wants her son back and is willing to do whatever must to satisfy the state.
A hearing is set for March 1 in Clare County Family Court.
