Troopers release men found to be in country illegally after assisting at vehicle runoff

OTSEGO LAKE TWP. — Michigan State Police troopers were instructed to release two men who were in the country illegally after the vehicle they were traveling in slid off the roadway Monday.
Troopers from Gaylord Post were dispatched to assist the vehicle that had slid off northbound I-75 near Marlette Road around 3:45 a.m.
When they arrived, reports show the vehicle was not damaged. When contacting the driver, troopers found he only had a Mexican identification card, while the passenger had no form of identification.
Troopers used a Google translator application to communicate with the two men The driver spoke broken English and the passenger spoke no English. The driver subsequently admitted they were both in the country illegally, according to reports.

Both men live in Morristown, Tenn., reports indicate, and were doing a painting job at Boyne Mountain Resort, though resort officials said neither man was under their employment.
