'We ran for our lives': Survivors tell of terrifying escape from wildfire that consumed California highway as firefighters blame drones for blocking rescue helicopters

  • Twenty vehicles were believed to have been destroyed by the fire which spread rapidly across Southern California
  • Blaze caused Freeway 15 in the Baldy Mesa area to be shut down, causing miles of traffic in both directions Friday
  • Dramatic aerial pictures show estimated 70 abandoned cars and trucks surrounded by flames as motorists fled
  • Fire has since spread to 3,500 acres, prompting authorities to use aircraft to drop water and fire retardant
  • Helicopter rescue efforts hampered by at least five drones being used at the site of the blaze
  • Eleven structures, including three homes, burned by the fire that slowed down overnight but is still barely contained
