My Country ‘Tis of Thee, Sweet Land of Misery

America is an occupied nation.

Economic Misery vs. Personal Misery

There are two kinds of misery which has permeated our nation, namely, economic misery and personal misery. The focus of this article is on the latter type of misery. Without question, America has become the most miserable nation on the planet.
Before we analyze the personal misery indicators, I want to briefly review the economic misery of the United States. Many of us know the statistics which comprise the misery index. We have 24% unemployment/underemployment as we sail past the Great Depression numbers. We have more people on welfare and than we have full time workers. The banks are on the verge of collapse. As the banks try and stay one step ahead of the burning bridge, the bankers are attempting to steal everything that they can get their hands on. The government is also posturing to steal 401K’s and our pension funds as they have already begun to “borrow” against select Federal retirement accounts. We live in a time when Obama is seemingly trying to provoke Americans into the streets as an excuse to unleash its foreign assets (e.g. Russian troops) in a martial law crackdown. DHS has armed itself to the teeth against the American people. Obamacare will prove to be the death knell for the American economy. Cap and trade will bury small businesses. Everywhere you look, we see examples of the erosion of civil liberties and individual prosperity.
How miserable are we? These statistics do not tell the entire story. There are many nations on the planet who are happier than the United States and they have much poorer economic indicators. As an old country song goes, America has been looking for happiness in all the wrong places.
