Jail Death Investigation

David Stojcevski was arrested after he told police he could not afford to pay a $772 traffic ticket.
The judge in his case ordered him to spend a month in the Macomb County jail. But for the 32-year-old, this turned out to be a death sentence.
David was denied clothing, lost 50 pounds, repeatedly suffered convulsions, and even began to hallucinate.
Medical experts say that he died from untreated drug withdrawal and galling neglect.
The lengthy, agonizing dying process was recorded on surveillance footage.
David had been placed in a monitored cell, after he was erroneously put on self-harm watch. That’s because jail officials believed he was mentally ill, rather than going through drug withdraw.
Local WDIV reported on this case, with medical experts weighing in. They explain that David was using Methadone, Xanax, and Klonopin to treat his addiction and slowly overcome heroin use.
But in jail, he was denied access to these treatments, and he quickly went into severe withdraw.
