CPS gets performance-audit update

CHARLESTON — Child Protective Services (CPS) is getting its act together. That’s the short summary of an audit update of CPS performance delivered Sunday, June 12, to the Government Organization and Government Operations committees.
CPS — part of the Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Children and Families — underwent a scathing review in 2013. The audit report, delivered in August of that year, said CPS suffered from high staff turnover, failure to conduct timely investigations and an unwillingness to fix its problems.
