Matt & Melissa Graves: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Tragedy has struck Orlando yet again. An alligator attacked and dragged a 2-year-old boy from the water’s edge at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Tuesday night. Law enforcement searching the Seven Seas Lagoon found the boy’s body Wednesday afternoon after a lengthy search.
The parents were identified as Matthew Graves, 42, and Melissa Graves, 38, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Orange County Sheriff Jeffrey Demings said at a press conference after the body of the boy, Lane Graves, was recovered from the lagoon. The boy’s body was fully intact when recovered. According to the medical examiner, the official cause of death was drowning and traumatic injuries.
Five alligators were captured and killed during the search, and authorities are determining if one of them is the killer, according to the sheriff. He said it’s unlikely that the parents will face any charges.
The family said they “do appreciate all the prayers that have gone forth,” according to Demings, who passed on the message from them at the press conference. The family said they can now “move forward at this time with a proper burial.”
