UPDATE 6/4/15 @ 2:35 p.m.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSAZ) -- The
Social Security Administration has lifted the suspension of payments for
900 disability benefit recipients in eastern Kentucky.
Late last month, federal officials sent notices
to hundreds of attorney Eric Conn's clients, saying due to suspected
fraud, their social security benefits would be suspended. 900 recipients
were losing benefits, while 600 others had to be re-examined.
According to press releases from US Rep. Evan
Jenkins and US Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers, the decision was made following
a meeting that the two representatives had with Acting Commissioner of
the Social Security Administration, Carolyn Colvin.
“Rep. Hal Rogers and I met with SSA officials on
Wednesday asking for this suspension to give claimants time to provide
evidence to Social Security," Congressman Jenkins said. "While it is
imperative that waste and fraud not be tolerated, that does not mean
benefits should be terminated without due process or evidence of
wrongdoing on behalf of claimants."
