Deformed by their mother's alcoholism: The Indian territory where hundreds of children are suffering fetal alcohol syndrome because their pregnant moms won't stop drinking

  • One in four children born in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota, suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome
  • Alcoholism is rampant in the community, even though drink is banned
  • The nearby town of Whiteclay sold more than four million beers in a year
  • Rural community only has four beer stores and the population is just 14
  • Problems in the community mean many children are put up for adoption
