Owner of dog found buried alive up to its head with its lead tied to a sack of gravel is arrested in France after photograph of the animal sparks outrage

• The French mastiff was found on waste ground in Carrieres-sur-Seine
• A passing dog walker spotted the distressed dog and rescued her
• The dog was suffering from shock and dehydration and is now with a vet
• 21-year-old owner denies burying the dog and said his pet had run away
